It hosted its first test match in 1985 when England were again the visitors. Renowned for excellent player facilities, it is also recognisable for the large grass embankments that constitute a significant proportion of the capacity. In terms of surface character the pitch is generally quick with the ball coming onto the bat nicely. The seamers tend to be prominent as it offers little assistance for the spinner. Sahara Stadium, Kingsmead, Durban Located a six hit away from the ocean, Kingsmead has hosted Test Matches since 1925. Its picturesque location is temepred by the fact that bad light and late afternoon thunderstorms can often curtail play. Given the humid conditions, swing bowling comes into its own at this venue. Spinners rarely influence and seamers on each side will relish the opportunity to bowl in potentially helpful surroundings. Sahara Park, Newlands, Cape TownSet in the shadow of Table Mountain, Newlands is regarded as one of the most beautiful grounds in the cricketing world. The grass embankments have largely been replaced to bring ground capacity up to a healthy 25,000. Its surface is the most conducive to spin in the country and is deemed a 'result pitch', with draws at a premium in Test matches. Wanderers, JohannesburgBuilt in 1956 and known as the 'Bullring' due to its intimidating atmosphere, the Wanderers has a capacity of 27,000 and is an intense experience for any visiting side. Hosted the most remarkable one day in history when South Africa successfully chased down an Australian score of 434. England Cricket Tour of South AfricaWith the British and Irish Lions rugby tour taking place earlier in 2009, the additional England cricket tour makes for an exceptional few months of high class sport in South Africa. The hosts are a current force in world cricket and will prove stern opponents for an England side coming off a high intensity Ashes series played during the English summer.
